Wherever you visit, you can usually find a good variety of places to stay; we realise that this isn't just restricted to cottages and that there is competition from b&bs and hotels. Many of our Salisbury properties are in outstanding areas of natural beauty. This year we have seen more cottages available in Salisbury than ever before. Kids love staying in cottages and although hotels can have more facilities, there's not the same sense of adventure - and there are certainly more rules and regulations. You can get up late, stay up late, go for walks, stay inside - and eat whatever takes your fancy, exactly when you're hungry.

There are few things better than renting a Salisbury cottage for a week. The busiest times of year will be around the school summer holiday, so if you don't have kids, you may want to avoid July and August. Knowing what everyone wants can make a big difference when you book your holiday accommodation in Salisbury. There's no doubt that being in the right town or village is a big factor, but the number of beds you need is more so. Make sure you know who is prepared to share a room, and who isn't - it's not always obvious til you ask.

Couples can take long romantic walks (or even silent ones!), friends can get on bicycles, families can visit adventure parks or play tennis. Or perhaps you're more interested in a pint of beer, a glass of wine or a gin and tonic in a traditional country pub?

The best thing (at least as far as we're concerned) about staying in a Salisbury holiday cottage is the self-catering. Whether you love cooking up a large stew, a roast dinner or just prefer a toasted cheese sandwich - it can match your mood. Without a doubt the main way holiday makers get to their cottage is by car, because it's the easiest. With the rise in petrol and the cost of wear and tear on your car you should consider other options. Although most places are going to be out of reach by bicycle the UK train and coach network can get you very close.
