Wherever you visit, you can usually find a good variety of places to stay; we realise that this isn't just restricted to cottages and that there is competition from b&bs and hotels. Many of our properties are situated in beautiful villages, quiet countryside or charming seaside towns. This year we have seen more cottages available in Helmsdale than ever before. Helmsdale family holidays in cottages are great for many reasons, but certainly the number one reason is creating a temporary home from home. So you can let you kids do whatever they want (as long as you're happy!) without fear of being too noisy or too messy.

Choosing the right Helmsdale accommodation is sometimes complicated when there are so many factors. There's no doubt that being in the right town or village is a big factor, but the number of beds you need is more so. Getting the right number of beds and bedrooms can be the difference between friends and family sleeping well - or not at all.

Helmsdale and Highland have a number of great things to do if you want to sample the fresh air and move a few muscles. There are usually opportunities to play golf or tennis, or if you're into solo sports there's always biking, running and sometimes archery. However, if you're like us, we tend to use the time to relax, read a good book, catch up on sleep and generally laze around.

One of the great benefits of cottage holidays in Helmsdale is being able to self-cater, or at least do your own thing. It's great to cook your own food, know exactly what ingredients are going in, and enjoying the reward of a great meal. Cars are by far the preferred mode of transport and travel to Helmsdale and Highland. With the rise in petrol and the cost of wear and tear on your car you should consider other options. Buses and coaches are often surprisingly good value, and a train journey will take you through countryside you'll never see from the road.
