When staying with friends we think self-catering is the best way to stay in Annan, it's just more fun. It's a relief to be able to eat whatever you fancy, and any time of the day, and of course self-catering can include take-aways. Most people will drive to their destination because it gives them increased mobility on their holiday. Although it's good to be able to hop in the car to the nearest town when you get there - don't you really just want to get away from it all? Buses and coaches are often surprisingly good value, and a train journey will take you through countryside you'll never see from the road.
