Wherever you visit, you can usually find a good variety of places to stay; we realise that this isn't just restricted to cottages and that there is competition from b&bs and hotels. Argyll and Bute is full of great places to stay, with self-catering accommodation in nearly every town. Cottage holidays have a unique feel to them and there are more and more cottages available in Tarbert. Kids love staying in cottages and although hotels can have more facilities, there's not the same sense of adventure - and there are certainly more rules and regulations. Because you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, and don't have to worry about anyone getting upset.

There are few things better than renting a Tarbert cottage for a week. The busiest times of year will be around the school summer holiday, so if you don't have kids, you may want to avoid July and August. The choice of Tarbert cottages is very broad so its important to understand what you need in advance. There's no doubt that being in the right town or village is a big factor, but the number of beds you need is more so. We suggest that you check with everyone in advance to ensure that you have the right number of beds and bedrooms.

From cycling and climbing right through to canoeing or just running around an empty field, there's no end of fun to be had. Or maybe you'd be happier sitting by the side of a river with a fishing rod, a cup of coffee and a good friend?

When staying with friends we think self-catering is the best way to stay in Tarbert, it's just more fun. It's great to cook your own food, know exactly what ingredients are going in, and enjoying the reward of a great meal. Assuming you don't own a private helicopter, you're probably thinking about travelling in your own car. But we'd suggest that taking the car can add to the stress levels and you can arrive exhausted from a long drive. Trains, buses and coaches are a much more carbon friendly solution since the fuel is shared by so many more people.
